A message written to an American friend...

Do You know what worries me the most? The fact that we both are living in democracies where freedom of speech is one of our basic rights, yet you and I don't really feel free to say everything we believe in because of what the surrounding would do about that. I am not working right now so I am in a special position where I'm really free to say every thing I want. My husband is working and is afraid of loosing his job or upsetting some of his friends, so he will never share political statuses I make. I used to have a good picture of us both as a profile picture, and he put the same picture as his own profile picture, and after he asked me to calm down with my political statuses, I decided to change my profile picture for a picture of me, out of respect for his wish, so it would be less confusing for people about who is writing the statuses... After all he can lose his job...
When I did my doctorate in Medical Sciences most of the academic staff was on the radical left wing. You can imagine the arguments... They appreciated me on the personal level, and they did give recommendations when I was looking for a place to do my post, but they were also really good people and the appreciation was totally mutual, with the understanding that everyone is entitled for his own opinion... But I'm sure that if my opinions were closer to theirs they would offer me better offers, maybe even to become an Academic Staff, which I was not interested in at that time, so I kept arguing about politics...
A-propo freedom of speech, the leftists are saying whatever they want because of that freedom, including lies, cons and manipulations. In Israel it is way beyond logic. Sometimes they even support boycott on Israel because the leftists are saying we are violating human rights in the occupied territories. Even if those allegation were right, it is not clever of them because they are playing right into the hands of our enemies, and can badly hurt our economy. About those allegations - I can tell you just this - fighting terror that is based among civilians is not a simple task, and it can cause some inconvenience to Civilians, some of them are innocent. And yet I think it is necessary to prevent terror attacks. So if it's the lives of innocent Israeli children vs. the inconvenience of Palestinian civilians, you know what I choose...
Because I know my people and my army I can assure you we are doing the maximum to minimize the inconvenience, sometimes even risking the lives of our soldiers... yet fighting terror is complicated and sophisticated. The Palestinians should also take some responsibility for their situation, after all the terrorists are not aliens from outer space, they are Palestinians! Some of them are even pretending to be innocent 5 minutes after they were involved in terror activities.
I'm sure that if there was no terror, there were also no barricades, and no inconvenience accompanying the barricades for the population. Those barricades are a burden, an economic burden, as well as a moral burden for us.
If the Israelis' wish came true, there was no terror, and there would have been peace, prosperity for all...
The world is not going in that direction, unfortunately, like things look today...
